BBA Cranberry Walnut Bread
Another week in the joy and joyness of bread baker’s apprentice. Truthfully if I did not commit to do every recipe in the book I would have skipped this one. I like cranberries and I like walnuts but ehh the bread just sounded ehh…boring. Now the english muffins, focaccia, pizza dough, and baguettes those definitely make me want to do a happy dance.
This bread was pretty straightforward and thankfully only took a couple hours to make. The tricky part was the braiding. In the book it said you will have three ten ounces pieces and three four ounces pieces that are braided and then combined. I ended with three pieces that were ten ounces each. I probably screwed up somewhere but since I was not really interested in this bread it was easy to take the three pieces braid them, egg wash them, and not care.

Couple people have e-mailed or made comments about wanting to see pictures of the garden. I keep forgetting I post pictures often to my facebook and sometimes to Twitter but will try to get better about sharing some garden porn pics to the blog.

Tomatoes in desperate need of blushing help:

your garden rocks Jeff -
I’m glad to see I’m not the only one with green tomatoes! All I have picked so far is a handful of cherry tomatoes. I have tons of them, they are just all green! The bread looks yummy. I’ll have a piece with a nice tall glass of milk please!
Awesome blog….
The garden looks great. I finally see a little pink on one tomatoes here!
Mmmm…this is my favorite bread from that book. I need to to make it again sometime.
What gorgeous, plump vegetables! You must have such fun cooking from your garden. You’re so good. Everything I’ve ever tried to grow just dies on me. And quickly, too. Kudos … (Neat bread, too!)
first of all, good for you for knowing how to braid. all the men in my life are clueless. secondly, your garden goods look terrific. green tomatoes hold such potential.
The bread looks pretty and tasty. Love the garden photos - your peppers look perfect.
The bread sounds delicious. Good for you to complete it even though it wasn’t your favorite!
Your bread looks good, but your garden looks fantastic!
Yay! Garden p*rn! Looks like way more than 30%.
I’m digging those peppers. YUM.
I didn’t really dig this bread either. Didn’t attempt the braid and just did a standard boule.
Your garden is impressive. No wonder you want to spend a lot of time tending it!
How lucky to have a garden with stuff to eat in it!!!
I love your pictures Jeff!
Those tomatoes still aren’t blushing?
I love green tomatoes… they make great ketchup!
I am growing my own tomatoes for the first time in my life thanks to the generosity of a neighbor. I have three tomatoes and none of them feel like blushing. I blame it on the rainy summer. I think I may have to do another round of fried green tomatoes in duck fat.
I think that bread would make great french toaste or bread pudding if it doesn’t thrill you on its own.
good thing you got a camera! beautiful garden photographs, you succeeded in making me jealous. The bread is not half bad either
How do I love thee, homemade bread? Let me count the ways…
lol…but seriously, the only homemade bread that doesn’t do it for me is burnt homemade bread and even then, I’d be tempted to scrap of the charred areas and eat it anyway
The bread still looks pretty and your garden is very nice. I wish I had the patience to do some gardening, maybe next year (yeah, right, that’s what I say every year LOL)
Oooohh yummy on all accounts! You crack me up about the bread, I’m looking forward to getting that far, my next is brioche. I’m also doing the Mastering the Art of French Cooking challenge, plus Tuesdays with Dorie, so maybe tomorrow, or the next day??? Sheesh.
What a great looking garden!
I’m so glad you did post the pics of your garden. Beautiful. I love the pic of your Italian Rose Beans. I’ve never planted beans. Can’t wait to read how they do. I skipped this bread. The boys did not want another bread with cranberries.
What a gorgeous bread and beautiful garden pictures!
Thanks for passing by!
Cheers,
Rosa
Such lovely pictures! Your bread looks delicious, I will have to make this one soon.
That random flower looks like deadly nightshade to me. If it develops small red berries tear it all out and throw it away. If you have small children, tear it out NOW.
Wish I’ll have a great garden as yours someday. The peppers and the tomatoes all look great & joyful !
Your garden is far more advanced than mine! My tomatoes are still only blossoms. Nice peppers, that will make some great salsa when the tomatoes come in.
Whoaaa… your garden got many nice stuff!
Maybe someday, I will also share my mom’s garden on my blog.
yeah yeah yeah garden pics are great, where’s the ice cream pics? ;-P
Oh I’m absolutely green with evnvy over your beautiful flowers, peppers and tomatoes. You’re so lucky to have weather which allows you to garden!!!
The bread looks nice braided like that, even if it was a tad boring
MMMMMMM,…the bread looks really inviting!! Can we have the recipe?
Your pictures of the garden look stunning!
I think the bread looks and sounds terrific! But I love the garden pictures. Especially your hard working little buddy!
My tomatoes are still green too! Looks like you are still in bread maker mode! Looks good!
I love your garden. Not as much as I love homemade bread but maybe a close second!
love the macro photos! oh, the bread looks good too..
Nice work on your garden! We must have gotten some sun while I was away on vacation, because ours seems to have started growing things finally. The bread looks delicious - cranberry and walnut are a great combination of flavors.
Beautiful bread and gorgeous pictures of your garden Jeff. I love the crust on the bread, and the stuff you’ve grown. Am I talking in tandem…it’s like the thoughts are tumbling out of my head. i hope those tomatoes blush soon!
Nice looking photos of the garden, and the bread looks great!
