Cedar grilled dill, lemon, garlic salmon
If you walk into any kitchen store like William and Sonoma you will notice these wonderful little cedar planks and you get 3 of them for about 15 bucks. Do not buy them! Instead head over to the lumber department at Home Depot or Lowes and ask for UNTREATED cedar. 12 feet of this will cost you about 15 dollars versus the kitchen shop which you get 6 feet for 15 dollars. If you don’t have a saw ask nicely and they will cut them for you or buy a 3 dollar handsaw while you are there and cut your board to the sizes you need when you need it.
Soak the planks submerged in water for a couple hours to overnight for best results. You may have to use a can or a small weight to keep the plank submerged.
For this recipe you will need:
- Salmon
- Couple cloves of garlic sliced
- Handful of chopped dill
- Lemon slices
- Kosher salt and black pepper
- Couple dashes of extra virgin olive oil
I decided to use the gas grill for this but your oven set to 400 degrees or charcoal will work fine. No matter what method you use put the cedar plank on the grate while you start it so the plank will warm up while your grill or oven is coming up to temperature.
While you are waiting for the oven or grill to come up to temperature rub the salmon with oil, sprinkle with salt and pepper, and then place the slices of garlic, dill, and lemon over top of it.
After the grill or oven is up to temperature place the salmon on top of the cedar plank.
Cook the salmon to an internal temperature of 131 degrees (about 10-15 minutes).
Serve and enjoy! If you want to do a family style serving take the plank from the grill or oven and place it on the table.
