BBA - Cinnamon Rolls

Another Bread Baker’s Apprentice challenge recipe is done for the BBA challenge posed by Nicole at Pinch My Salt.  Amazing I am still going strong although I have established it is impossible to bake bread when you get home at 5 p.m. and like to be in bed at 10 p.m.  Even though the recipe says four hours it does not factor in the 30 minutes spent trying to figure out where you put cinnamon sticks at because you swear you bought them.  Then the 15 minutes it takes to get to the grocery store, deal with people, buy cinnamon sticks, come home, grind cinnamon sticks, grab sugar, and tada find your hidden collection of cinnamon sticks next to the sugar.  *sigh*  Maybe one of these days I will take the time and organize my massive collection of kitchen crap.

The only time it seems I ever treat myself to a cinnamon roll is when I am sprinting through an airport to catch the next flight.  I find the massive carb and sugar content is just enough to knock my ass out so I can sleep soundly on flights and not have to listen to the lady next to me freak out over every single bump, ramble nonsensically about her grand kids, or her ailments (hint people headphones in the ears mean leave me the freak alone unless you are a Swedish swimsuit model than I will happily listen to your problems).

I was shocked and amazed to realize that not only are they really flipping easy to make (thank you Mr. KitchenAid for working hard so I have to hardly work) but they taste 1000x better than an airport kiosk cinnamon roll.  Heck the cinnamon rolls smelled so amazing that after pulling them out of the oven I had to take a bite.  The person who was on the phone with me at the time was greeted with a spew of expletives about how awesome they were and how badly I burnt my mouth.  Although like a moth to a light I could not stop eating them and continued to curse joy and joyness and pain simultaneously while my friend laughed uncontrollably at my idiocy.

So off to the next challenge…..

  1. I just got up, enjoying my coffee … Cinnamon rolls sounds perfect at the very moment!

  2. Homemade cinnamon rolls really are the bomb! I made them a few years ago, and I couldn’t believe how good they were - the dough is such a joy to work with (now I really sound like a baking freak)…great job! They look beautiful!

  3. Boy would I love a few of these right NOW. Wonderful.
    Susie

  4. Don’t take this the wrong way but…I want your buns!! LOL

  5. Ok, Mr. Baker. Your rolls are simply perfect! I love making them too but don’t know if I’ve ever made such pretty ones :) I usually hit up some white wine prior to a flight to knock me out, but a cinnamon rolls sounds much more delectable!

  6. Your rolls look amazing! I love the way this dough came together and how it felt so smooth and light. These were the best i’ve ever tasted. Oh, and no matter how long a recipe says it takes–it always takes me at least double the time.

  7. Cinnamon rolls are my fave!!!

  8. you’ve made many a tasty dish, jeff, but this one’s my favorite. the way to my heart is through cinnamon rolls. :)

  9. Ok, that’s it I need to make cinnamon rolls

  10. Oh my, love that picture. Looks delicious. I still have to make them. Usually with two teenage boys they are gone in a day.

  11. Mmm…they look great! (I’m sure the burnt roof of your mouth was well worth it. :) Congrats…very funny post, too!

  12. I always pretend to sleep on public transportation. On subways, it’s to avoid having to make eye contact with any panhandlers and on planes it’s to avoid having to make awkward conversation with the person next to me. Although sometimes you get a really persistent person and then it’s all over.

These look delicious. I would have attempted the BBA challenge for these alone had I known…

  13. How do you manage to make these and not eat them all? We’d have to call in the troops immediately.

  14. Ain’t nothing like a homemade cinnamon roll or a Swedish swimsuit model.

  15. Gorgeous buns you got there.

  16. These are my very favorite treats - wish we were neighbors so I could have one.

  17. Jeff, dare I call you a Bread Baking Babe? lol

You’re knocking some tasty goodies out of the oven, fo’sho!

  18. Jeff you crack me up! The bit about your lost cinnamon, the airplane riders and your first-hand experience eating hot cinnamon buns made my day!

  19. I rarely ever eat cinnamon rolls either, though I really love them. Yours look fabulous!! Great photos!

  20. I LOVE a hot cinnamon bun from the oven in the mornings…or any time of day! yours look SO SO good!!!!

  21. I’m back to say that I just made these and my son just wolfed down two buns. They are amazing.

  22. What? only 1000x better? I can tell from the photo that it must be WAY more than that. Let me know when I can expect my batch in the mail, thanks ;-)

  23. OMG you totally crack me up! They look perfect, loved your post ;)

  24. Can you send them here? Please? I’ve been craving cinnamon rolls for weeks…. Guess I’ll just have to make my own. Sigh. Seriously, though, these look wonderful!

  25. It is ALL about homemade cinnamon rolls! You can’t ever go back to airport-bought, you don’t deserve that :)
they look fantastic, nice generous slathering of icing!

  27. I have to tell ya sweet breads are my favorite thing in the world. Who could resist soft warm bread with cinnamon and sugar all over it, not me! I have zero patience when it comes to waiting till something cools off to eat it, I ‘ve had my share of baker mouth burns too!

  28. They look awesome! I loved them so much I made them twice.

  29. Ok these look so good! I am just not a bread baker! But these look worth it.

  30. mmmmm…cinnamon rolls… They’re much easier than you think, right?

  31. Wow, you grind your own cinnamon!! Very impressive. Your post made me laugh today. I too have a pet peeve about people in planes talking to me when I have ear phones on. We also had a hard time showing any restraint and burned out mouths eating the hot buns. Try the sticky buns version. Unbelievable!!

  32. Love cinnamon buns, specially when in the oven…the smell of it is just so good.

  33. You are so funny! I love the part about you having earphones in (unless you are a supermodel!)

I love cinnamon rolls, but have never tried to make them myself. Sorry about not finding the cinnamon sticks, it would just figure you would find them after you went out and got some more!

    These look divine!

  34. Nice Buns! I’ve had the same bun experience in the airport, but with the headphones, it happens all the time on the street with people asking for directions. No Swedish (or German!) swimsuit models, though!

  35. MMmmm… I shouldn’t have checked this at 3am. God, I want some. Like you, I almost always buy them only when I’m at the airport. I buy one instinctively with my latte.

  36. Ha, I was just at the airport Tuesday and stopped to get a cinnamon roll. They always have a weird aftertaste. Yours look great!!

  37. Yummy looking cinnamon buns!

  38. Very nice! That fondant icing looks to-die-for. And I agree about needing those carbs for flights - I hate dealing with my neighbors and trying to establish who gets to use the shared armrest.

  39. Oh I absolutely love cinnamon rolls! I buy them at any opportunity, which is surprisingly rare in Ireland! I always make a stop at Cinnabon when I can, the last one being in Dubai (not to brag…:)) but I find them sub-par.. and yet I have never made them myself…. I feel inspired now, thanks! :D
