Deep Fried Snickers

Every year one of my good friends has a fish fry.  Basically it is a bunch of guys drinking beer, smoking cigars, expanding on our stories of conquests (although lately it seems all they want to talk about is what their kids have been doing which fyi is boring as hell for the single kidless people) and a little game we like to call how high can the bonfire go.

Leading up to this even my wheels were spinning about how could I potentially cause cardiac arrest to someone and then it hit me go old school fair food.  The deep fryer will already been operating so why not batter up some snickers and dump them in a deep fryer.

The key for this dish is having the snickers frozen solid.  Mine were not as frozen since they sat in a cooler for a couple of hours.  Oh yes any candy bar would be awesome with this in fact a couple Twinkies did get thrown in there and yes they were amazing.

For the batter you will need:

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • pinch of salt
  • 2 TB of sugar

Combine everything together and if the mixture seems thick add in a couple more dashes of milk.

Get your favorite deep fryer up to about 350 degrees, roll the frozen snickers in the batter, and drop them in.  If you want to get creative before you freeze the snickers stick a skewer in them.  This will create a great little handle but is not required.

Drop them in the deep fryer for a couple of minutes.

If I was thinking I would have brought some confectioner’s sugar with me and dusted them with that.

Besides the potential death from the deep fried snickers I decided to be nice and make some baked beans.  The recipe for the beans can be found here

  1. Sorry, Jeff, you lost me with this post. I’m sure there’s an audience for deep fried snickers and molasses baked beans, but it’s not me. I’ll be back, of course, but I hope you’ll be serving something else like your Wasabi Pea Tuna or Cabbage Soup, both of which I enjoyed.

  2. The Scottish have deep-fried Mars bars for years and I too tried the Snickers bar. It’s not for everyday but it was damn good!

  3. do people really do this?!i’m sure i could eat the baked beans (without the molasses, thanks), but frying mars bars? please, just think how long it will take to unclog your arteries after this!

  4. snickers, mars bars, whatever

  5. I’ve seen that only once, deep fried snickers. That must be goey. I never get enough of baked beans, especially with a good bread.

  6. I’m no junk food addict, but I would LOVE to try one of these. Perhaps with a Twix? Delish.

  7. i’ve only had one of these in my lifetime, but not by choice. they are amazing, and that’s an understatement. i may have to buckle down and make my own. :)

  8. oh my, this is really different… will give it a shot… :)

  9. omg - are you like, totally Scottish or something?!

You just nicked one of my Scottish scran pieces!!!

  10. Wow. I’ve heard about these before but never tried them (the fried Snickers, not the baked beans). Deep frying candy bars—that’s like laughing in the face of the grim reaper (so perfect for Halloween)!

  11. I’ve strangely never stumbled upon these being served anywhere, but I would be all over it so fast….I need to try this one of these days. And Reese’s Peanut Butter cups!

  12. I would sooo eat the snickers, and the beans with the bacon on top, look fabulous!!!

  13. I would so dip my freid snickers in that pan of beans…yum, can I come over to sample?

  14. Never had deep fried snickers but they sound good. Although I would have to run ten miles after eating them. I have had deep fried cheesecake though.

  15. you are the king of deep fried! I still dream of those deep fried mac & cheese torture bombs.
I love baked beans, my hubby hates them, go figure!

  16. oh wow. i bet the deep fried Snickers are not for everyone. But, I’ll give this a shot.
